“Sacho” Illustre broke 6 swimming records and took home 7 gold medals in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2015. These events include 200M Fly, 100M Fly, 800M Free, 200m Free, and 4x100M IM relay. The 200M Fly record was created 16 years ago by Juan Carlo Piccio with a time of 2:09:96. Sacho broke it in the prelims with a time of 2:09.00 and again in the finals with a time of 2:07.28.
Pre-Game — Before the Palaro, Sacho was able to compete in the Singapore National Age Group competition. His personal best times were already close to the Palaro records so he knew that if he kept doing what he’s been doing in training, beating the records would not be a problem. To prepare, this summer, he trained under the guidance of his Father and Coach, Noel Illustre. He would swim twice a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, once during the rest of the week, and go to the gym on Sundays.
